جنّة جنّة | Ǧanna Ǧanna | Jannah Jannah | Djannah Djannah | Janna Janna
Films about the refugee crisis have been made, but rarely do we have a chance to look into the hearts of those who are affected the most: The children. Janna Janna (arab. جنّة, Ǧanna, Janna, Jannah or Djannah for: Paradise) tells the story of a journey of two clowns, of yearning and hope of the local people. In 2015, I accompanied the clowns without borders Miriam Brenner and Philipp Marth on their volunteer trip to the Syrian border and shot exclusive Footage of the Clowns first ever presencted in that area. I witnessed how the clowns’ show of music, acrobatics and humor helped to distract the kids from the horrible memories of war, and how much it built bridges between the cultures. Now, three years later, I want to return with the Clowns, to see what changed for the children. As a filmmaker I want to give a platform to the tough and brave children, who are still able to smile albeit being traumatized; and to the Clowns’ daring and courageous work. For it shows how much we need the healing powers.
